> CYC becomes Platinum Green Office, by attaining the highest award of Platinum from the Office of Sustainability's Green Office program.

> Bernice Sandler, ‘Godmother of Title IX,’ dies at 90. When Dr. Sandler was teaching part-time at UMD, she was told that she wasn’t being hired for a full-time job because “you come on too strong for a woman.”

> The University of Maryland Writing Project (UMdWP)—housed in the College of Education--has been selected to receive a 2019-20 Advanced Institute Scale Up the College, Career, and Community Writers Program (C3WP) grant in the amount of $15,000 from the National Writing Project (NWP). The National Writing Project focuses the knowledge, expertise, and leadership of our nation’s educators on sustained efforts to improve writing and learning for all learners.

> University of Maryland project receives $2.2M award to support learning for deafblind children. The Connections Beyond Sight and Sound: Maryland and D.C. Deaf-Blind Project (CBSS), which is a partnership between UMD and the Maryland State Department of Education, received an award of approximately $1.1 million from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs and another $1.1 million award from the MSDE Division of Early Intervention and Special Education Services.

> The Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership launches a new, online Post-Baccalaureate Certificate program in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
