> UMD to host Thought Leaders Summit on Diversity and Inclusion in Higher Education. The meeting featured discussions on some of the most challenging issues in higher education, including the resurgence of white supremacy and anti-semitism on college and university campuses; sexual harassment and violence; student activism, protests, and demonstrations; free speech and freedom of expression; and broadening concerns about campus climate safety.

> Dr. Candace M. Moore, faculty director of the Higher Education in the Ghanaian Context (HEGC!) study abroad program, with Dr. Jillian A. Martin, co-instructor for HEGC!, led a group of graduate students and higher education staff on a study abroad program to Ghana, West Africa.

> Unity mural created by UMD and Bowie State University displayed at Maryland State House. The mural was designed to engage students in discussions about social justice, including hate-crimes and discrimination, and how to prevent these problems from proliferating in our society and schools.

> Center for Young Children earns State’s highest quality rating for early childhood programs. The University of Maryland College of Education’s Center for Young Children (CYC) earned the highest possible rating for quality from the Maryland EXCELS program, which evaluates early childhood and public prekindergarten programs in the state. CYC received five of five possible checkmarks from the state quality rating and improvement system for its overall score.

> University of Maryland, together with Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, announces a new center at UMD designed to improve college and career outcomes for students and youth with disabilities. The Center for Transition and Career Innovation (CTCI), housed in the University of Maryland College of Education, will foster partnerships among university faculty and local, state and national agencies and organizations to promote research, improvements in practice, and supportive governmental policies that advance workforce readiness for youth with disabilities.

> UMD alumna Jean E. Lokerson bequeaths $1.75M to support scholarships for education students.

> COE launches online certificate program in special education for teachers in inclusive classrooms.
