> COE honored with the 2013 Best Practice Award in Support of Global Diversity by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE). The award recognizes a school, college or department of education that fosters diversity, equity and global awareness as core elements of its educator preparation programs.

> COE hosts a Jewish-Muslim Women’s Leadership Initiative workshop, co-organized and moderated by Dr. Jing Lin, professor of international education policy, Dr. Sahar Khamis, professor of communication and women’s studies, and Graduate Assistant Sachi Edwards. Supported by a grant from the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), and a matching amount from the dean of the College of Education, the workshop engaged 11 Jewish and Muslim women students from the University of Maryland in constructive dialogue.

> The National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) named Judith Torney-Purta, a professor of Human Development and Quantitative Methodology as the 2013 Jean Dresden Grambs Distinguished Career in Research Award recipient.

> COE and the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership, Policy and Leadership (TLPL) launch the Maryland Equity Project.
