> In this year's edition of U.S. News & World Report's Best Graduate Schools, the College of Education rose in the rankings to 21st in the nation. The college has 10 programs ranked in the Top 20, of which five are Top 10 rankings. For the eighth consecutive year the Department of Counseling and Personnel Services ranked first nationwide.

> In fiscal year 2007 the College of Education attracted $13.6 million in externally funded research and sponsored programs.

> The Maryland Institute for Minority Achievement and Urban Education is recognized with the 2007 Community Excellence for Minority Achievement Award and the 2007 Maryland State Vanguard Award.

> College of Education alumna, Marsha A. Guenzler-Stevens, Ph.D., is named the 2007 recipient of the William L. Thomas, Jr. Mentor Award.

> The College of Education honored nine outstanding faculty, staff, and students at its fourth annual awards ceremony on May 4, 2007. Honorees were Min Wang, Ph.D.; Patti Dowdell; Valerie Wedge; Michael P. Krezmien; Hung-Bin Sheu; Jennifer Labin; Brielle Dana; Marylu McEwen, Ph.D.; Patricia Alexander, Ph.D.

> In May 2007 the College of Education Alumni Chapter hosted the college's inaugural Alumni College--'Return to Learn'. The day-long event presented a unique opportunity for attendees to expand their knowledge of educational issues through a series of sessions conducted by faculty and experts in the field of education. Inspired by the overwhelming positive feedback received from participants, the Alumni Chapter hosted a second Alumni College in October 2007.

> In July 2007 the Department of Education Policy and Leadership (EDPL) is reorganized into two new departments: the Department of Education Policy Studies (EDPS) and the Department of Education Leadership, Higher Education and International Education (EDHI).

> Associate Dean Donna L. Wiseman, Ph.D., is named interim dean of the college in July 2007.

> In August 2007 Interim Dean Wiseman appointed three new associate deans for the 2007-08 academic year. Stephen Koziol, Ph.D. is Associate Dean for Academic Programs; David Cooper, Ph.D. is Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and School Partnerships; Gregory Hancock, Ph.D. is Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education.

> The college's second endowed professorship is established. Curriculum and Instruction Associate Professor Linda R. Valli, Ph.D., is the inaugural holder of the Jeffrey and David Mullan Professorship in Teacher Education-Professional Development.

> In October 2007 the college hosted the first National Capitol Summit on Latino Students and Educational Opportunity in Washington, D.C. with the Educational Policy Institute--a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding educational opportunity for low-income and other historically-underrepresented students through high-level research and analysis.

> Associate Professor Ellen Fabian, Department of Counseling and Personnel Services, received a President's Commission on Disability Issues Award for her significant contributions toward improving the quality of life and campus culture for people with disabilities. Fabian was presented with the award during an October 2007 ceremony marking the kickoff of the university's first Disability Awareness Month.

> Javaune Adams-Gaston, an affiliate faculty member of the Department of Counseling and Personnel Services, is honored with the President's Distinguished Service Award at the 24th Annual Faculty and Staff Convocation held in October 2007. Adams-Gaston is executive director of the University Career Center.

> The college is certified as fully accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) in October 2007.

> The College of Education Alumni Chapter and Phi Delta Kappa recognize 14 distinguished individuals at the college's annual alumni awards ceremony in November:
