> The University phases out the Department of Industrial and Technological Occupations in fall 1994, although coursework is still offered for existing majors.

> Vernon Anderson, former Dean of the College of Education, dies at age 86.

> The National Education Association recognizes the College's Teacher Education Program as an exemplary program in June.

> A master's program in Special Education is offered for teachers and professional staff of the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DODDS) through the University of Maryland's European Division and the University of Cambridge in England.

> The College receives a $70,000 grant from the Japan Foundation for the Going Beyond Awareness project to promote leadership seminars and exchange programs between the United States and Japan. The grant was initiated by the National Intercultural Education Leadership Institute (NIELI) and the training of instructional leaders through Mid-Atlantic Region Japan-in-the Schools (MARJiS).

> The Department of Human Development, chaired by Robert Hardy, receives a grant from the Coca-Cola Company to help local high school students find assistance for college.

> Changes are made to the use of space within the Benjamin Building to meet demands of new initiatives and programs brought about by the awarding of major grants in the area of Special Education. The faculty lounge and the International Science Library are dismantled to make room for instructional space, and the Art Room is reassigned as project space.
