> On September 12, a new Center for Young Children opens in the Cambridge Dining Hall courtyard, replacing the earlier facility located in the Benjamin Building.

> The College issues in February a report titled A Proposal for Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers, as a Holmes Initiative model for teacher preparation.

> Frank Lyman, Office of Laboratory Experiences, receives the Teacher Educator of the Year award.

> With funding from the Maryland State Department of Education, the Department of Special Education collaborates with Baltimore City Public Schools on the LIFE Project (Learning Integration for Everyone) to establish integrated preschool programs for mildly-handicapped and non-handicapped students.

> Robert Berdahl, Education Policy, Planning and Administration, wins the university's Distinguished Scholar-Teacher Award.

> Hugh Perkins, former Human Development faculty member, dies.
