> Three new departments are created: Administration, Supervision, and Curriculum; Counseling and Student Personnel Services; and Special Education. The Departments of Social Foundations and Educational Research were not approved.

> The University of Maryland is one of five institutions selected by the U.S. Office of Education to join the TTT Project (Training of Teachers of Teachers Project). Each institution received grant money under the Education Professions Development Act to establish teacher training programs in selected public school systems.

> Harold R.W. Benjamin, former Dean , receives an honorary doctorate from the University on June 15.

> The basement of the Benjamin Building is completed and the Educational Technology Center opens there. It offers facilities for television production, photography, and development of instructional aids.

> The Department of Elementary Education receives a federal grant to train teachers in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and D.C. for the Head Start Program.

> The Science Teaching Center opens in basement of the Benjamin Building to aid in training teachers in science education.

> The College opens a Comparative Education Center.

> Programs in Counseling and Personnel Services are proposed for the Okinawa and Tokyo Centers of University College's Far East Division.

> A doctoral program in Agricultural Education is added.
