> The College establishes the Bureau of Educational Research and Field Services (BERFS) to oversee and coordinate faculty research projects and studies contracted by public school systems.

> The College opens an Education Annex in a former sorority house (known as Alpha Epsilon Omega in 1953-54 and Delta Kappa Epsilon in 1954-55) behind Annapolis Hall, off Lehigh Road.

> The College's Planning and Advisory Council approves Dean Anderson's suggestion to form a committee to oversee the planning of a new building.

> The Curriculum Laboratory moves to the University Library in January, and get a $500 budget to purchase materials.

> Health problems force Daniel Prescott to resign as Director of Institute for Child Study, but he remains on the faculty of the College of Education as Professor Emeritus. H. Gerthon Morgan succeeds Daniel Prescott as Director of the Human Development Department/Institute for Child Study.

> The College receives five National Defense of Education Act fellowships for doctoral students pursuing degrees in higher education.

> The College confers in June its first Advanced Graduate Specialist Certificate, an earned graduate award, in the area of School Administration.

> The Faculty Council approves a new master's program in Corrective and Remedial Reading Instruction.

> The College holds a summer workshop on human relations in educational administration to develop leadership teams providing in-service programs in human relations in the public schools. This program is directed by Clarence Newell, Professor of Educational Administration.

> The Board of the W.T. Grant Foundation decides that it can no longer underwrite the three faculty salaries of the Institute for Child Study.
