> Daniel Prescott founds the Institute for Child Study. The program descends from an inservice teaching project sponsored by the Commission on Teacher Education of the American Council on Education, which was continued at the University of Chicago where Prescott taught before coming to the University of Maryland. The Institute's innovative Child Study program helps teachers apply human development principles to the classroom through the direct observation and study of children. Institute staff travel to various school districts in Maryland and around the country leading teachers in Child Study groups .

> In a letter to University President Harry Byrd and members of the Administrative Board, Harold R.W. Benjamin suggests the name "University College" for the proposed University Extension Division. Later that year, the Board of Regents establishes this division, calling it the College of Special and Continuation Studies.

> The Doctor of Education degree program is introduced.

> The Secretarial and General Business Education curricula are added.

> At the invitation of the War Department, Professor Henry Brechbill serves for two months in Germany as a consultant in teacher education.

> The Department of Industrial Education co-sponsors an Employer Relations Institute in Baltimore with the Maryland Chapter of International Association of Public Employment Services and the Department of Employment Security. Among the workshops offered are programs to assist disabled war veterans in finding employment in industry.

> An internship program in Administration is founded by the College in Montgomery County schools.

> Maryland's State Superintendent of Schools Thomas Pullen suggests that the University establish a training school for librarians at College Park in conjunction with the Enoch Pratt Library in Baltimore and is the first suggestion of the establishment of a Library Education program at the University.

> Edna McNaughton submits plans to President Byrd for a new University Nursery School.
