> A committee of the Administrative Board on Extension Courses appointed by President Byrd issues a report recommending the establishment of a University Extension Division. Under the proposed new division, all courses previously offered by the College of Education through the Baltimore Extension Center , as well as extension courses offered at other sites (Calvert Distilleries, Edgewood, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Naval Ordnance Laboratory, and the Glenn L. Martin Company), would be administered by the University Extension Division.

> Professors R. Lee Hornbake and S. Grant Conner join the Department of Industrial Education, in an effort by the State Board of Education to address a shortage of vocational teaching personnel in Maryland public schools. The Industrial Education department invites high school students and returning war veterans to join the training program.

> The College offers a master's program in Elementary School Curriculum and Teaching.

> At the request of several students, the Department of Industrial Education offers graduate work for African-American students at its Baltimore Division. The following year, the State Board of Public Works appropriates $8,836 to establish the graduate programs in Baltimore.

> Glen L. Brown of the Industrial Education Department leads the conference "Vocational Education for the Coal Mining Industry" at the William James Hotel in Oakton, Md., one of many conferences co-sponsored by the department for workers in industry.

> The College offers a curriculum in Dental Education.
