> The College confers its first Master's degree of Education (M.Ed). Programs are offered in Secondary Education, Adult Education, Administration and Supervision, Science Education, and Comparative Education.

> Glen Brown , head of Department of Industrial Education, is released from course work to teach an intensive instructor-training course at Aberdeen Proving Grounds to develop teacher training for military personnel assigned to teach National Defense occupational activities. Dr. Brown also assists with defense teacher training in the vocational division of the Baltimore public schools.

> The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace selects Harold R.W. Benjamin to travel to South America "to discuss many phases of education in that part of the world as well as to spread good will."

> In June, the National Youth Administration (NYA) invites faculty member Arnold Joyal to work on the Maryland College Work Council. The NYA also collaborates with the University in training its students and local youth for defense industries in a machine/metal-working shop (Shriver Hall) on the College Park campus.
